just plain old not happy

From Chad Ford's blog:

"Here in Treviso, we've now had two sources, one close to Williams and one close to the Hawks, confirm that Hawks GM Billy Knight indeed asked Williams to shut down his workouts in return for the Hawks' selection."

What are the upside projections on Shelden Williams? A healthy version of Alan Henderson? A less backstabbing Carlos Boozer? I only have a few rules for judging players athletic abilities, and looking exactly like Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars isn't on the positive side.

If you have a top 5 pick, the thought "he'll never be an all star" shouldn't cross your mind. In reality it's true, but you should at least be able to convince yourself that at some point he could be an all star.

First, Hawks fans demand that the Hawks do not take another swingman. Looks like your wish will come true, but the GM pulls a shocker and practically guarantees they are gonna take Williams, how's that swingman looking now?

to be fair I guess I'd rather have Shelden than Brandon Roy or Rudy Gay. However, taking Aldridge, Marcus Williams, or trading down and getting Shelden Williams would seemingly make more sense.

Spaceman, the problem isn't the fact that they are taking Shelden Williams. He could be a decent pro. It is where they are taking him at and that they are working a deal with him instead of working a deal to trade down a little bit and get more value with the pick.

I couldn't disagree more. In my opinion the top 2 nba ready guys in the draft are shelden williams and marcus williams. I wasn't a believer in shelden williams until I went down to the ncaa tournament this year and saw him dominate.

the guy does exactly what you want, plays hard, great d, and a tenacious rebounder. My limited knowledge of the hawks tells me that he would be a great compliment to what they've got. They don't need another 20 shot a game guy on offense. With Shelden downlow Joe and Marvin should be able to hoist all the shots they want.

The problem is that Shelden is not a center. Dude is 6"8 with below average reach. There would be no arguments from me if we drafted Marcus Williams, I personally prefer Rondo, but I wouldn't mind Marcus at all.

i didnt consider trading down and getting him, which would be a lot smarter, my comment was based solely on picking him at 5, my bad. Its a shame you guys dont need Brandon Roy.

Ummmmm, my roomate is angered that you didn't give him a shoutout when you posted the admiral akbar comment. He's deeply hurt.

That is true, one Baron Von Reismanisrich was the first to notice the Williams/Ackbar similarities
